In a latest development, the Indian cricket team has decided to release three travelling reserves - Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal, and Navdeep Saini - from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad.
The pace bowling trio will now take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for their domestic sides. The domestic one-day tournament is slated to get underway on December 21, and the games will be played across 18 venues in eight host cities.
According to a TOI report, the team management feels that it will be better for the three players to get some game time under their belt because now only two Tests are remaining in the five-match series after the ongoing fixture at the Gabba.
Mukesh and Saini were named as travelling reserves when India’s squad was announced in October 2024, whereas Dayal was added later as a replacement for Khaleel Ahmed.
It has been reported that Dayal has already reached home and is gearing up to play for Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Mukesh will be seen in action for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, while Saini will turn up for Delhi.
Currently, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep are playing at the Gabba with Nitish Kumar Reddy featuring as a fast bowling allrounder.
Apart from these quicks, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna are the other two fast bowlers in the squad. While Rana played the first two Tests of the series, Krishna is yet to get a chance.
