BGT 2024: “India's turn to stage a comeback”- Harbhajan Singh gives ‘win Brisbane, win series’ mantra

The third Test of BGT 2024 will be played in Brisbane from December 14 onwards.

Team India | GettyFormer India spinner Harbhajan Singh has said that India has the best chance to win the BGT 2024 Test series, if they manage to win the third Test in Brisbane, which begins on December 14.

Notably, the five-Test series is tied at 1-1, with India winning the first Test in Perth and Australia winning the second in Adelaide. As a result, the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane might determine the outcome of the series.

Harbhajan commended both sides for their capacity to recover from defeats before the forthcoming encounter.

He stated that both teams were taken by surprise by each other in the first two Tests, and India's momentum was interrupted owing to the lengthy interval between the first and second Tests.

"I feel this series is the toughest because both teams have the caliber to bounce back. What happened to Australia in Perth they wouldn't have thought that, and also India wouldn't have thought what would happen at Adelaide after the magnificent victory in Perth. And as Sir (Gavaskar) said the long gap does break the momentum and that happened here,” said Harbhajan on Star Sports.

Harbhajan also noted that India needs to win two out of the remaining three Tests and the best place for them to win would be in Melbourne and Sydney. He stated that if India manages to win the third Test in Brisbane, they should go on to win the Test series as well.

But now if we look at it as a three-match series, India has to win at least 2 matches and I feel their best chance to win would be in Sydney and Melbourne. If India plays their best cricket at Gabba and comes out as winners, then India will win either in Melbourne or Sydney. The series which now stands at 1-1, shows that both teams have it in them to make a comeback. Australia came back magnificently to win in Adelaide and it is India's turn to stage a comeback,” he added.

India will have the inspiration from their last outing in Brisbane during the 2020-21 tour, where a second-string team led by Ajinkya Rahane defeated Australia by 3 wickets and pocketed the series 2-1.
