India star batter Virat Kohli was left puzzled after Australia’s Mitchell Marsh survived a close LBW call despite a DRS referral on day two of the ongoing second BGT 2024-25 Test being played in Adelaide.
During the replays, it was discovered that R Ashwin's delivery contained two spikes, one from the ball hitting the bat and pad simultaneously. The cameras were likewise unable to distinguish between the two, resulting in the verdict remaining unchanged due to a lack of convincing evidence to overturn the call.
Kohli was not pleased as he questioned the on-field umpire about why the same call was not made during the first Test in Perth. Rahul was controversially dismissed in the first innings of the Perth Test after being caught behind.
Replays revealed that the spike in the snicko was caused by the contact between the bat and pad, however, the third umpire at the time ignored this and reversed the on-field official's call.
“KL’s was the same in Perth. One on the pad and one on the spikes," Kohli asked the umpire, and the audio was caught on the stump mic.
Ashwin got his man later on with an edge to the keeper, which Marsh did not report to the third umpire. Replays revealed that the ball did not get the edge at the moment, and India eventually got away with a judgment in their favor.
Australia was bowled out for 337 runs thanks to Travis Head’s brilliant 140-run knock, helping them with a lead of 157 runs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj picked 4 wickets each.
