Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is hogging the headlines in his maiden Test tour of Australia. After falling for a duck in the first innings of Perth Test, the southpaw bounced back strongly in the second dig, smashing 161 off 297 balls with 15 boundaries and 3 sixes.
His knock helped India set a mammoth target of 534 for Australia, who were bowled out for 238 in 58.4 overs to lose the game by 295 runs.
During the Perth Test, Jaiswal also stole the show for his brutal sledging. The 22-year-old was caught on stump mic saying to Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc, "It’s coming too slow".
Recently, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon revealed that he was at the receiving end of Jaiswal’s sledge in Perth as well.
"Young Yashasvi Jaiswal told me, 'You are a legend, but you're old.' He said that to me while I was bowling," Lyon said while speaking on the SEN Podcast.
The hosts of the show felt that it was brave of Yashasvi Jaiswal to sledge while batting. They opined that sledging as a fielder is common, but doing so as a batter requires remarkable audacity.
When asked if he had ever picked Jaiswal’s wicket, Lyon replied, "No, he said that to me when he was around 120 runs. All good fun."
Lyon responded to Jaiswal’s sledge with, "I appreciate it, mate, but I don’t feel that old."
When asked whose wicket he would like to take, Jaiswal’s or Virat Kohli’s, Lyon quipped, "Both."
The Indian team is leading the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-0. The second will be played with the pink ball at the Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10.
