Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with the bat for India on Day 2 of the first Test match against Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
After India gained a handy first-innings lead of 46 runs, the southpaw along with KL Rahul batted with discipline to put the visitors in a commanding position.
While Jaiswal ended the second day on 90* off 193 balls, Rahul remained unbeaten on 62 off 153 balls. Thanks to their brilliance, the tourists reached 172/0 at stumps, stretching their lead to 218 runs in the second innings.
Apart from batting, Jaiswal hogged the headlines for his banter game as he engaged in a hilarious run out dodging game with Marnus Labuschagne.
The incident took place in the 44th over bowled by Mitchell Marsh as Jaiswal defended a delivery between covers and point. The left-hander attempted a quick single but Rahul sent him back. Labuschagne came charging in, picked up the ball and faked a throw at the stumps.
The 22-year-old Jaiswal, unfazed, also stopped just short of his crease to tease Labuschagne, who pretended to throw the ball thrice but the Indian opener stood inches outside his crease all the time and pretended to reach the crease twice with his foot and once with his bat.
In the end, neither Labuschagne threw the ball nor Jaiswal rushed back to his crease. Both of them ended up smiling and the incident went viral on social media.

Jaiswal and Rahul’s partnership was particularly significant on Day 2, marking the first hundred-run opening stand for India in Australia since January 2004. This stand is also only the sixth century partnership for the opening wicket by Indian openers on Australian soil.
The opening pair will be determined to extend the partnership and complete their respective centuries during the first session’s play on Day 3.
