Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana were involved in on-field banter on Day 2 of the ongoing Perth Test where the Australian veteran playfully reminded the Indian debutant that he bowls faster than him.
This exchange came during a fiery spell from Rana, who had Starc ducking to evade a barrage of short-pitched deliveries.
The drama unfolded during the 30th over of Australia's first innings at the Optus Stadium. When the Indian pacer was walking back to his bowling mark, the stump microphone caught Starc making a cheeky remark.
"Harshit, I bowl faster than you. I've got a long memory," said Starc with a smile, hinting at the possibility of revenge when the Indian tailender comes to bat.
Harshit Rana responded with a smile and the video of their banter went viral on social media.
Notably, Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana played for the same IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, earlier this year. Despite Starc's warning, Rana bowled with pace and extracted sharp bounce off the lively Perth wicket.
On Day 1, Harshit Rana cleaned up Travis Head with a beauty to claim his maiden Test wicket. He dismissed Nathan Lyon on the second day to leave Australia reeling at 79/9 in response to India’s first-innings total of 150.
Stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for India as he returned with a five-wicket haul. At the time of writing, Bumrah’s bowling figures were 16-5-29-5.
