Gautam Gambhir, the former batsman and head coach of India, has challenged Australia to prepare any kind of surface, claiming that the Indian Test team for the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024) has "all bases covered" to counter "any kind of wicket".
The five-match BGT 2024 Test series between India and Australia will start in Perth on November 22.
Gambhir stated that India is ready to take on the type of surfaces Australia has set for the series before leaving for Australia on Monday with the second group of Indian players.
"We don't control the wickets, we are ready for any kind of wicket. It's their wish whatever they want to give. We are ready for any kind of condition and our bases are covered. If we play cricket to our best potential, then we can beat them,” Gambhir was quoted by ANI.
In order to give the team ample time to adjust and train on the bouncy Perth surfaces, India will land in Australia ten days before the first Test match.
To gain extra time in the nets, India has canceled its practice match against India A. The WACA ground is where they are supposed to train. The New Optus Stadium will host the game.
"I think 10 days, if we can get good, proper preparation before the start of the series, I think we're going to be in really good shape. We've got a lot of experienced players who've been to Australia a lot many times. So their experience will come in handy for the young players as well.
I'm sure these 10 days are going to be very crucial. Come the 22nd morning, I think we should be absolutely ready and ready to fire from ball one," Gambhir said.
India will be coming into the BGT 2024 on the back of a historic 0-3 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home.
