Indian batter Shreyas Iyer said that pressure always brings the best out of him after he played a crucial knock and was involved in a very important partnership with Rishabh Pant to bring Team India out of danger in the ongoing second and final Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
Iyer played a brilliant knock of 87 runs off 105 balls as well as stitched a 159-run partnership with Pant (93 runs off 104 runs) for the fifth wicket to help India post 314 in their first innings against Bangladesh.
Following the conclusion of the second day's play, the right-hander stated that Pant kept him calm and composed throughout his knock, which was critical in Team India's comeback to the game.
Shreyas Iyer was quoted as saying by India Today on Friday (December 23): “I love and thrive under challenges. Pressure lifts me, that's the situation I wanted to be in. Pant kept me calm and composed. It was crucial. We made a stand of 170 [159] but it was important.”
Praising Pant for his quickfire knock, he said: “It wasn't an intense chat. I didn't want to disturb his focus. We tried to communicate with actions, he maintained calm and targeted the right bowlers.”
Iyer signed off by saying on the Dhaka pitch: “You can't judge anything as there is variable bounce and movement. The contribution of the bowlers was commendable. We need to bowl the right level and other things will take care of themselves.”
