The first Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and India got underway at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on December 14, 2022.
India's captain for this Test, KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat first. Both India openers Rahul (22) and Shubman Gill (20) fell early with the captain chopping a wide delivery onto his stumps and Gill getting out trying to play a paddle sweep. India then lost Virat Kohli for 1 run as he was out LBW to Taijul Islam.
Rishabh Pant then counterattacked with 46 runs in 45 balls, before getting bowled by Mehidy Hasan. Then Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara added 149 runs for the 5th wicket before Pujara was dismissed for 90 by Taijul.

India ended day one on 278/6 as Akshar Patel fell for 14 runs to Mehidy Hasan in the last over of the day.
For Bangladesh, Taijul Islam picked 3/84, Mehidy picked 2/71 and Khaled Ahmed picked one wicket as well.
The cricket fraternity lauded Cheteshwar Pujara and Shreyas Iyer for adding 149 runs for the fifth wicket and putting India in a relatively strong position.
