BAN v IND 2022: Bangladesh need to play on batting-friendly surfaces to become a world-class side, says Litton Das

Bangladesh lost the third ODI by 227 runs but won the series 2-1.

Bangladesh were outplayed in the third and final ODI | GettyBangladesh have mostly played on turning pitches at home in recent years and managed to defeat big teams like Australia and New Zealand on such tracks.

Recently, the Tigers won the three-match ODI series against India by 2-1 by winning the first two games at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, where batters found it tough to score runs.

However, Bangladesh were outplayed in the third and final ODI in Chattogram, losing the match by a huge margin of 227 runs.

Riding on centuries from Ishan Kishan (210 off 131 balls) and Virat Kohli (113 off 91 balls), the Men in Blue piled up a mammoth 409/8 in 50 overs.

In reply, Bangladesh’s innings folded for a paltry 182 in 34 overs. It was a listless batting performance from the hosts as no one managed to hit a half-century. Shakib Al Hasan was the top scorer with 43.

After the game, Bangladesh's stand-in captain Litton Das stressed on the need for his team to play more on batting-friendly surfaces to improve their performances.

"There were two matches in Mirpur but the batting was not that easy there. Today's wicket was batting friendly but we did not bat well here. There was pressure of run rate and that is the reason we had to accelerate a lot. Certainly playing in good conditions, you will be failing a lot against big teams but there are a lot of things to take from it. You can understand how you will be developing in certain areas," Das said in the post-match press conference.

"We have to work in this area (bowling on good wicket). We are not a world-class side yet and working regularly on these areas will help us develop," he added.

Litton Das further said that his team went into the chase with an aggressive mindset, which resulted in losing wickets at regular intervals.

"Today we were chasing a huge total and if we had played dot balls, we could have scored 300 to 320 runs. All we wanted was that whoever goes in will have the intent to win the game. If we are in a similar situation (again), we will be playing the same attacking brand of cricket. After 400 runs were scored, we only said that we need to play attacking cricket. We also wanted to keep wickets in hand along with playing attacking cricket. But when you are attacking you will lose wickets at some point," he said.

Litton Das got the opportunity to lead his country as regular ODI captain Tamim Iqbal sustained a groin injury before the series. It turned out to be a memorable one for him as Bangladesh recorded their second home ODI series win over India.

When asked if he would like to lead the side in future, Litton replied: "I am very happy. Everyone helped me and I never felt any kind of pressure. Certainly, if BCB give me the responsibility and I am happy to lead the side and thankful to BCB for giving me the chance."

Bangladesh will now square off in a two-match Test series against India, starting December 14 in Chattogram.
