A giant in domestic cricket, left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat on Saturday (December 10) earned a call-up to the Indian Test squad for the upcoming series in Bangladesh as a replacement for Mohammad Shami, who has been ruled out with a hand injury.
A BCCI source confirmed to the news agency PTI that Unadkat will join the Test squad in Chattogram after the completion of his visa formalities.
Unadkat, 31, received this call-up after years of hard yards in domestic cricket. He was ignored for the red-ball side despite leading Saurashtra to the Ranji Trophy triumph in 2019-20 and finishing the season as the highest wicket-taker (67 scalps).
Jaydev Unadkat, whose only Test appearance came in 2010 and last played for India in 2018, has featured in 96 first-class matches, claiming 353 wickets at an impressive average of 23.04 with 20 five-wicket hauls.
After the news of his addition to the Test squad, Indian cricket fraternity took to Twitter and congratulated the Saurashtra captain.
