Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday (December 2) announced that Litton Das will lead the 'Tigers' in the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, starting on December 4 in Dhaka.

The BCB was forced to make changes after the regular captain Tamim Iqbal was ruled out of the much-awaited ODI series against Team India due to a groin injury.

Notably, the Test vice-captain, Litton Das had earlier captained Bangladesh in a T20I in New Zealand in 2021 when Mahmudullah was injured.

It is being said that T20I captain Shakib Al Hasan was first offered the opportunity, which the veteran all-rounder denied, forcing BCB to appoint Das as their 15th ODI skipper for the home series.

Jalal Yunus, BCB cricket operation chairman, said in the media release: “Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well.”

Yunus added, “It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim to injury for this very important series, especially because under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format. He will be missed but we also feel that Liton has the attributes to do a good job as captain.”
