Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra was disappointed with young opener Shubman Gill not being picked for the Bangladesh tour despite him performing well in ODIs recently.

Gill has so far scored 638 runs in 12 ODIs at an average of 70.88 and a strike rate of 102.57, with four fifties and a century to his name. He has been in brilliant form with the bat in 2022, but despite his all-around good show, the right-hander was not picked for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

With senior batters Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul returning to the side, and Dhawan being picked as well, Gill was not included in India’s ODI squad for Bangladesh, which left Chopra furious at the team management, as the youngster has been doing great at the top of the batting order.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “Shubman Gill is performing really well. He wasn't a part of the T20 World Cup. So, he's not tired at all. He doesn't need workload management at all but he has not been selected for the Bangladesh tour. But why?”

The cricket pundit said if India doesn’t want to give Gill an opportunity when the seniors are available, then there is no point in selecting him when they are not available.

He continued, “He isn't doing anything wrong. And if you think you can't select him even after doing well then don't select him in the first place because it defies logic.”

India's squad for Bangladesh ODIs:
