The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has selected five domestic bowlers to help the senior Indian team in their quest for adequate and well-detailed net practice sessions for the Asia Cup in UAE.
These five bowlers include three quicks - Avesh Khan, M Prasidh Krishna and Siddharth Kaul as well as two spinners - left-armer Shahbaz Nadeem and wrist-spinner Mayank Markande.
Apart from Avesh, rest of the pack of was part of either India A or B's squad in the recently concluded Quadrangular series against the visiting Australian and South African sides. Kaul, infact, was part of the Indian team during the limited overs phase of the just finished long and grueling tour of England.
Although, with the domestic List A competition Vijay Hazare Trophy (National One-Dayers) starting from September 19, it is expected that the players will send back in order to feature for their state teams. In the meantime, the second batch of India's Asia Cup squad will have arrived anyway.
"Not everywhere do you get quality net bowlers and it becomes a problem for the senior team during practice sessions." a BCCI source close to the development was quoted telling PTI on Friday, September 14, "With back to back games, you don't expect a Bhuvneshwar Kumar or a Jasprit Bumrah to bowl flat out at the nets. Also, the young academy bowlers at times can't provide quality practice. Hence we have got some of our next line of bowlers,"
"This is a process that proves to be mutually beneficial for the team. While senior batsmen get quality practice, someone like a Mayank Markande can learn a lot by bowling at the India nets." he added, "Also the senior players and the coaches can only keep a tab on the talent pool,"
To provide further detailed net practice, the BCCI has also roped in a left-arm throwdown expert from Sri Lanka named Nuwan Seneviratne, with a clear objective of being as equipped before facing the likes of Mohammad Amir and Junaid Khan & co.
India's Asia Cup campaign kickstarts with an opening game against qualifiers Hong Kong on September 18, which will be followed by the tournament attraction clash versus Pakistan on September 19.
