Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav consoled young Sri Lankan spinner Dunith Wellalage after their Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash, showing empathy following latter’s recent bereavement.
Dunith lost his father, Suranga Wellalage, to a heart attack earlier this month. The 22-year-old was playing the Asia Cup group-stage match against Afghanistan, and following the conclusion of the game, Sri Lanka head coach Sanath Jayasuriya broke the tragic news of his father's death to him.
Following the game, Suryakumar went up to Wellalage on the field. In a touching gesture, the Indian captain placed a comforting hand on Wellalage’s shoulder, spoke words of support, and embraced him.
Wellalage constantly nodded his head, agreeing with whatever Suryakumar was conveying. The video of their heartwarming interaction was shared by Sony Sports Network on social media with the caption, "This moment."

In the Super Over, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh conceded just two runs and picked up two crucial wickets in five balls. Suryakumar Yadav then hit three runs off the first delivery of Wanindu Hasaranga to extend India's unbeaten run in the ongoing continental event.
