Pakistan suffered a humiliating six-wicket defeat at the hands of India in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 21).
Asked to bat first, the Men in Green posted 171/5 in their allotted 20 overs, courtesy of Sahibzada Farhan’s half-century (58 off 45) and Faheem Ashraf’s unbeaten cameo (20* off 8)
In reply, the Indian opening duo of Abhishek Sharma (74 off 39) and Shubman Gill (47 off 28) took the Pakistani bowling attack to the cleaners, sharing a fiery 105-run stand to take the defending champions over the finishing line with seven deliveries to spare.
This was Pakistan’s seventh successive defeat against India across ODIs and T20Is. Their last win was in the 2022 Asia Cup when they beat India by five wickets. Since then, they have suffered defeats in the 2022 T20 World Cup, 2023 Asia Cup, 2023 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup, 2025 Champions Trophy and twice in the 2025 Asia Cup.
After the latest thrashing, legendary pacer Wasim Akram was seen expressing his pain over Pakistan's performance against India while also acknowledging the skill gap between two sides.
“I am going to speak my heart out. It is tough to watch Pakistan. I understand as an ex-player winning and losing that part of the game. But again India has outplayed Pakistan in every department over the last four or five years. Once or twice, we have won here and there, but it has been incredible from India. The talent, the depth, everything. One or two catches can be dropped in any game, that is fine. But from 91 in the first 10 overs, when we fail to reach 200, there is nothing to say,” Akram said in the post-match show on Sony Sports Network.
Pakistan are now facing a must-win situation in the remaining Super 4 games to stay alive in the continental tournament. They will take on Sri Lanka in their next match in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday (September 23).
