Tempers flared both on and off the field when India and Pakistan met each other in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (September 21).
While the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill dealt with the Pakistani players on the field, the Indian fans also made their presence felt in the contest.
The Men in Blue fans teased Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf with chants of ‘Virat Kohli’ even though the former Indian skipper wasn’t part of the game. Notably, Kohli had famously hammered Rauf for two back-to-back sixes in the 19th over of the India-Pakistan 2022 T20 World Cup match at MCG to pull off a heist for his team.
The clip of fans chanting Kohli’s name when Rauf was fielding near the boundary ropes is now going viral on social media.
During the high-stake clash, Haris Rauf was seen taunting Indian cricket team fans with a controversial 6-0 gesture. Several videos and pictures of Rauf making a 6-0 sign while fielding near the boundary ropes have emerged on the internet.
The 6-0 is a reference to Pakistan’s baseless claims that they downed six Indian fighter jets during the cross-border tussle following Operation Sindoor.
Coming to the match, India defeated Pakistan by six wickets to open their Asia Cup Super 4 campaign with a bang.
Chasing 172 to win, the Men in Blue rode on Abhishek Sharma’s 39-ball 74 and Shubman Gill’s 28-ball 47 to overhaul the target in 18.5 overs. Tilak Varma finished the job with an unbeaten knock of 30 in 19 balls.
