Usman Wahla, the Director of International Cricket Operations, was suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following the national men's team's seven-wicket defeat to India in the 2025 Asia Cup.

The Mohsin Naqvi-chaired Pakistan Cricket Board decided that Wahla needed to be disciplined for "failing to take timely action" over the handshake scandal during the match, according to reports in Pakistani media.

After the match, India's skipper Suryakumar Yadav and his batting partner Shivam Dube left immediately for the dressing room, refusing to shake hands with their Pakistani rivals. The Indians closed their dressing room door after the Pakistani squad was observed loitering for a while.

Naqvi reportedly carried out an internal review and came to the conclusion that Wahla had not handled the matter well.

He should have flagged and fixed it before the game started, according to PCB, which expects him to protect Pakistan's standing in such sportsmanship issues.

“Wahla was removed from his position over the delay in issuing a formal response to the match referee's conduct and India's actions," a report from ASports said.

In addition to being the head of the Pakistan Super League, the nation's top T20 competition, Wahla has remained in the position for two years.

Salman Agha responded by saying he would not attend the post-match presentation. Agha's actions were the "flow" and "effect" of the event, according to head coach Mike Hesson, who also expressed his team's disappointment that India did not partake in the traditional handshakes.

The PCB has issued several statements over the issue and their anger with the same, and as per multiple reports, they have threatened to boycott any further games in the Asia Cup until the ICC meets their demands.

However, if they boycott their match against the UAE, this will mean two points for the hosts, and they will have four points to Pakistan’s two points. This will end Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 tournament before the super-four stage.
