IPL franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) just made waves with their social media post for Team India’s second match in the group stages of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. India, which defeated the UAE in their tournament opener, will clash with Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.
This will be the first game between the two arch-rivals in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the subsequent Operation Sindoor launched by India against Pakistan.
Ever since then, there have been calls for India to boycott all sorts of relations with Pakistan, including cricket. Recently, the Indian Legends team boycotted their two matches against Pakistan in the WCL 2025, including the semi-final game.
Many urged the BCCI and Indian government to do the same for the Asia Cup, but the government put out a notification banning bilateral sporting ties between India and Pakistan, while allowing the Indian team to play Pakistan in multi-nation events.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) team Punjab Kings devised a novel strategy to boycott Pakistan at the Asia Cup amid the commotion.
A few days before the highly anticipated Asia Cup encounter, Punjab Kings posted a graphic for India's upcoming match (versus Pakistan on September 14) on social media without mentioning the team from the other side of the border. The post for India’s next Asia Cup didn’t mention Pakistan, their logo, or anything about them.
Naturally, PBKS's tweet received a lot of attention, and the franchise was forced to turn off X's (previously Twitter's) comments section.
