India opened their Asia Cup 2025 tournament against the UAE in a Group A match on September 10, 2025. India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to field first.
Muhammad Waseem (19) and Alishan Sharafu (22) added 26 runs for the first wicket. They started well, scoring 41 for 2 in their powerplay overs. But then things fell apart for the home team, as Kuldeep Yadav started the collapse with three wickets in an over.
And then Shivam Dube ran through the lower order to bag 3 for 4, his best T20I figures. UAE lost their last 8 wickets for just 10 runs to get bowled out for 57 runs. Kuldeep Yadav finished with 4/7 in 2.1 overs.
However, during the 13th over of the UAE innings, a rare incident occurred when, in a rare display of sportsmanship, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav dropped an appeal even after the third umpire had given the batter out.
Junaid Siddique tried a pull shot but failed when Shivam Dube bowled him a short delivery. Siddique quickly pointed out that Dube's towel had fallen off in the middle of the run-up. Siddique stepped out of his crease, forgetting to ground his bat in that moment of distraction.
Sanju Samson, the wicketkeeper for India, saw the error immediately and hit the stumps with a straight throw. Siddique was officially given out stumped by the TV and the enormous screen displayed "OUT."
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain, unexpectedly withdrew the appeal, admitting that the batter had been distracted due to the falling towel rather than his own mistake. The crowd applauded the gesture, highlighting the cricket passion that frequently characterizes India's style of play.
