Just days before the Asia Cup 2025 tournament, Team India has reportedly received a huge jolt. Their title sponsor, fantasy sports platform Dream11, has decided to end their association with the Men in Blue side.
Real-money gaming sites such as Dream11 are prohibited by the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025' that was just passed by the Indian Parliament.
As per an NDTV report, although neither Dream11 nor the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially commented on the sponsorship agreement, it has been rumored that the fantasy sports website is unwilling to extend the agreement.
In fact, there's a good chance Dream11 won't be the primary sponsor of Team India in the 2025 Asia Cup. In 2023, Dream11 and the BCCI signed a contract for Rs 358 crore, which included Rs 1 crore for each away game and Rs 3 crore for each home game.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Friday said that the board will follow the laws of the country.
"If it's not permissible, we'll not do anything. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country that is framed by the central government," Saikia said.
Additionally, the BCCI is anticipated to invite fresh bids for the shirt sponsorship rights. The Indian team will compete in the Asia Cup without a lead sponsor if the BCCI cannot get a new sponsorship before the competition begins on September 9.
Although the Indian team's Dream11-emblazoned Asia Cup jerseys have already been printed, they won't be used in the tournament, according to sources.
The Asia Cup 2025 will be played from September 9 in the UAE, featuring eight teams, and the final is scheduled for September 28. The tournament will be played in T20 format, and Suryakumar Yadav will lead a 15-member Indian squad.
