Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali hopes India refuse to play Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup to avoid humiliation like their recent thrashing at the hands of West Indies in Trinidad on Tuesday (August 12).
The Men in Green lost the third ODI by a huge margin of 202 runs to concede the series 2-1. Pakistan’s next assignment in the Asia Cup 2025, slated to get underway on September 9 in UAE.
The continental tournament will see India versus Pakistan clash taking place on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
“I pray India refuse to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can’t even imagine)," Basit said while speaking on The Game Plan YouTube channel.
The host couldn’t control his laughter at the comment before adding that, in their current state, Pakistan would not even stand a chance against Afghanistan.
“If we lose to Afghanistan, no one would care much in this country. But everyone goes mad the moment you lose to India," Basit further stated.
While Pakistan lost the ODI series, it is worth mentioning that the upcoming Asia Cup will be played in the T20I format, where the side has fared better.
Prior to the 50-over series, Pakistan, under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, had won the T20I series 2-1 against the West Indies.
India and Pakistan can face each other thrice in the Men’s Asia Cup 2025. After the group stage clash, the arch-rivals can meet once again on September 22 if qualify together for the Super Four stage while their showdown in the final on September 28 is also a possibility.
