Cricket Australia on Tuesday (October 7) unveiled their white-ball squads for the upcoming home series against India, comprising three ODIs and five T20Is.
The series will serve as vital preparation for both teams ahead of future ICC tournaments, while also providing an opportunity for several fringe players to showcase their skills. The ODI series is slated to get underway on October 19 in Perth, followed by the T20I leg beginning on October 29.
Ace pacer Mitchell Starc has been picked in Australia’s ODI squad for the three-match series against India. The left-arm quick sat out from Australia’s recent three-ODI series against South Africa at home as part of his workload management in the lead up to the Ashes later this year.
Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead Australia in ODIs in the absence of Pat Cummins, who is recovering from an injury. Besides Starc, Mitchell Owen, Matthew Renshaw and Matthew Short have also been recalled into the 15-member squad.
Left-handed opener Renshaw is back in the one-day setup for the first time since 2022 following prolific performances for Australia A and Queensland. He’s yet to make his ODI debut.
Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey will miss the first match of the ODI series in Perth to play the second round of Sheffield Shield against Queensland at the Adelaide Oval.
Josh Inglis has returned to the T20I squad after recovering from a minor calf injury. Glenn Maxwell is still unavailable due to the fracture suffered to his wrist on the tour to New Zealand.
The T20I batting line-up includes Travis Head, Marsh, Tim David, Inglis, Short, and Owen, while Marcus Stoinis continues as a key all-rounder. The bowling attack features Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis, Ben Dwarshuis, and Xavier Bartlett, with Adam Zampa and Matthew Kuhnemann providing spin options.
All-rounder Cameron Green will continue his preparation for the Test summer with Western Australia following the ODI leg.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket," Australia chair of selector’s George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead," he added.
