AUS v IND 2018-19: Indian bowlers fail to impress in the practice match

India tried out seven bowlers but most of them went wicket-less.

Cricket Australia are trailing by only 2 runs at the end of third day's play | GETTY

After India posted a total of 358 in the first innings of the four-day practice match against Cricket Australia XI, Indian bowlers were too feeble in reply. Only Mohammad Shami was able to bag three wickets, while others were not too impressive.

CA XI posted 114 runs for the first wicket. India did manage to trigger a collapse after the hosts lost their captain Sam Whiteman to Umesh Yadav, but the momentum wasn't capitalized. From 213/2 to 234/6, India did well to shift the game in their favor. However, they once again got stuck with the lower order batsmen.

Harry Nielsen, CA XI wicket-keeper, and Aaron Hardie have posted 122 runs partnership for the seventh wicket. They are yet to be dismissed after batting for 36.3 overs together. Nielsen is bating on unbeaten 56 runs and Hardie has added 69*.

The top scorer for CA XI was D'Arcy Short with 74 runs. He was dismissed by the pick of the bowlers, Shami. Apart from the frontline pacer, Umesh Yadav and R Ashwin got one wicket each.

India tried seven bowlers, including skipper Virat Kohli himself, but none turned out to be the partnership breaker.

Tomorrow is the last day of the practice match and CA XI are trailing by only two runs.
