Taking to Twitter, Kohli, who returned to India on paternity leave after the Test series opener in Adelaide, wrote: “WHAT A WIN!!! Yessssss. To everyone who doubted us after Adelaide, stand up and take notice. Exemplary performance but the grit and determination was the standout for us the whole way. Well done to all the boys and the management. Enjoy this historic feat lads. Cheers.”

Chasing 328 to win in the fourth innings in Brisbane, India were 4/0 overnight and lost opener Rohit Sharma (7) early on Day 5. But the 21-year-old Shubman Gill once again displayed his class as he scored 91 to keep the hopes alive.

In the process, Gill also shared a 114-run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara, who showed his grit once more and played a 56-run knock off 211 balls.

After both of them got out, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant came to the party and smashed 89 not out off 138 balls to take the visitors over the line.

Following a humiliating defeat in the opening Test at the Adelaide Oval, Team India had bounced back emphatically to register a series-levelling eight-wicket victory at the MCG while they pulled off a famous draw in the third Test at SCG by batting out 131 overs.
