Indian team became the first and only Asian team to beat Australia in Australia in a Test series twice.

India became the only Asian team to beat Australia twice in Test series in their own backyard | GettyBCCI President Sourav Ganguly was elated and overjoyed as India earned a historic win at the Gabba Test in Brisbane. This was the first time India or any Asian team had beaten Australia in Brisbane, ending their 32-year unbeaten run at the venue on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Rishabh Pant (89*), Cheteshwar Pujara (55), and Shubman Gill (91) were the main architects of this famous Indian win which came under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane and without a dozen of first-choice players in the team.

India chased down a 328-run target losing 7 wickets in the process, thanks to a brilliant knock by Pant, who carried on in his own way of batting and only Pat Cummins with 4/55 looked like getting Australia to a win.

However, it was not to be and the Indian team came back from the horror of being bowled out for 36 in the Adelaide Test, to winning in Melbourne and then gritting it out to draw the Sydney Test. The finale was sweeter, as India was without even Ashwin and Bumrah in the bowling department and Rahane used his limited resources well, as Australia was bowled out in both innings of the Brisbane Test after a long time.

He not only tweeted to congratulate the team but also announced that the BCCI will give the team a 5 crore rupees bonus for winning the series 2-1 and retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Just a remarkable win...To go to Australia and win a test series in this way ..will be remembered in the history of indian cricket forever ..Bcci announces a 5 cr bonus for the team ..The value of this win is beyond any number ..well done to every member of the touring party..” Ganguly posted.
