21-year-old all-rounder from Chennai, Washington Sundar, has had an exciting last 3 days in Australia. He got his debut Test cap from Ravichandran Ashwin before the start of play in the fourth Test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane. Since then, he's had a merry time against the hosts.

Washington finished with 3 scalps in the first innings picking up the great Steve Smith as his first Test wicket. He batted at No. 7 in the first innings and recorded a fighting half-century pulling his team out of trouble.

His father M Sundar revealed that the youngster had promised him a big score on debut and he delivered.

Washington's father M Sundar told IANS, "I speak to him in Australia every day. I told him last evening whenever you get a chance, get a big score. He said, 'Sure I will'."

However, he is disappointed with his son not getting to the three-figure mark. He believes that Washington should have resorted to playing the big shots when Mohammed Siraj came in to bat, which would have gotten him closer to his century.

"I am disappointed he did not get a 100. When Siraj came, he should have hit fours and sixes. He is capable of that. He should have gone for sixes. He could have gone for pulls and big hits. Perhaps, he thought of trying to come close to Australia's total as the lead was very less," he added.
