Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta was highly impressed with the performance put up by India's inexperienced bowling attack on Day 1 of the ongoing fourth and final Test against Australia at The Gabba, Brisbane on Friday (January 14).

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and R Ashwin, India’s inexperienced bowling attack comprising Mohammed Siraj, T Natarajan (debutant), Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, and Washington Sundar (debutant) all have shown great courage and bowled their heart out to take five wickets on Day 1 of the Brisbane Test on Friday.

In the ongoing Brisbane Test, India’s bowlers have a combined experience of only 4 Test matches, but the way they battled hard everyone should proud of them, although, Australia managed 274/5 at the stump, Dasgupta said nobody could question the heart Indian bowlers showed on Day 1 in Brisbane.

India’s Test debutants Natarajan and Sundar had a dream debut on Day 1, as the two took the crucial wickets of Marnus Labuschagne (108), Matthew Wade (45), and Steve Smith (36) respectively to keep Team India in the game against Australia at The Gabba.

However, former cricketer hailed the Indian bowlers’ performance in Australia’s favorite hunting ground the Gabba, but pointed out the medium pace is an issue with Natarajan as it makes him a little one-dimensional bowler but impressed with his attitude while bowling.

Dasgupta said on Sports Today: “With Natarajan, the only issue is because he is not that quick. He is a medium pacer, a little better than medium pace and he generally doesn't swing the ball back into the left-hander that much. Becomes a little one-dimensional kind of bowler.”

He added, “Obviously, he doesn't have the experience of bowling with the red-ball, which also kind of showed in his bowling. In terms of heart, you can't question the heart the Indian bowlers have shown.”
