Indian Cricket Team suffered a double blow on Saturday (January 9) as their in-form all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant copped blows while batting on Day 3 of the ongoing third Test against Australia in Sydney.

While Pant was hit on the left elbow by a delivery from Pat Cummins in the second session on Saturday, Jadeja suffered a blow to his left thumb while facing Mitchell Starc. The two were taken for scans to assess any injury.

Well, now it has reportedly emerged that Pant has escaped any serious injury as the scan revealed that the left-hander has not suffered any fracture and he should be able to bat on Day 5.

Journalist Boria Majumdar has revealed that the 22-year-old is in pain but did not sustain any significant damage. He further said Pant is receiving treatment for injury and should be able to bat in India’s second innings of the third Test against Australia at the SCG.

He wrote on Twitter: “Breaking in what should come as some relief for India @RishabhPant17 scans show no major damage. He is in pain but should be able to bat on day 5. He is being treated for the injury. Watch 5@5 @SportsTodayofc for more.”

However, the update about Jadeja is not promising as he is likely to be out of the remainder of the Test and the series.  The all-rounder has been doing a fantastic job for Team India in the ongoing four-Test series both with the bat and ball. He scalped four wickets in Australia’s first innings, and contributed unbeaten 28 to India’s first innings total of 244.

Boria tweeted: "In what is a huge blow for India there is a dislocation in @imjadeja s left thumb and it can also be a fracture. Final reports awaited. Very very damaging this for India with Jadeja not available to the team. Watch for more details o @SportsTodayofc at 5@5. @IndiaToday"

Noteworthy, Rishabh Pant did not keep wickets on Day 3 as Australia came out to bat in the second innings with Wriddhiman Saha fulfilling the duties and is expected to continue on Day 4 at the SCG.
