India arrived at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on the third day (January 9), hoping to bat well and take a lead after restricting Australia to 338 in their first innings. But what followed was a disappointing all-round batting effort as India conceded a lead of 94 as they got bowled out for 244, which was made worse by injuries to two of their players.

Rishabh Pant was hit on his left elbow by Pat Cummins which left him in quite a bit of pain, though he resumed his innings after treatment before eventually being dismissed for 36. Wriddhiman Saha replaced Pant behind the stumps when Australia's second innings started as the wicket-keeper was taken to hospital for scans.

Soon after during India's innings, Ravindra Jadeja was hit on his left thumb by Mitchell Starc and he too seemed in quite a bit of pain but continued to bat following treatment as he finished 28*. He also did not come out on the field with rest of the team, but was seen with quite a bit of plaster on his bowling hand in the dressing room.

BCCI has now confirmed that he too has been taken for scans to find out the extent of the injury. India would hope his injury in particular isn't too serious as he has been in fantastic form with bat and ball recently. It appears unlikely that both Pant and Jadeja would take the field in the second innings even if their scans come all clear.
