Team India is without the likes of Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the last two Tests of the ongoing series in Australia. However, former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir feels that they have a great opportunity to tear through the Australian batting and win the series Down Under.
Gambhir went on to call Australia's top four as the weakest in the world at the moment. While it is a huge statement to call a line up of 'David Warner, Will Pucovski, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith' as the weakest in the world, their current form/fitness might aid the claim.
Gautam Gambhir told ANI, "We have a chance against Australia. If you look at the top four batting line-up of the world, I think it's the weakest batting line-up. England is better than Australia, New Zealand is better than Australia and India is much better than in Australia."
AUS v IND 2020-21: Gambhir feels Indian team management has been unfair to both Pant and Saha
"I haven't seen this kind of Australian batting line-up in my life. So, vulnerability is there. They haven't played India's main attack. If Shami, Ishant, and Umesh Yadav were fit then there would have been no reply from the Australians. So, there is a big possibility and chance that we can win this series," he added.
The Test series is leveled 1-1 after two games with two more to go. Team India came up from the loss of Adelaide and won the Boxing Day Test under their new captain, Ajinkya Rahane.
His side has now gained momentum for the rest of the series and Gambhir believes that the vulnerability of Australian batsmen gives India great chances of winning the series.
"It's a big opportunity and chance for the Indian team to beat Australia in Australia again because I don't think this kind of vulnerability was ever seen in the hosts' batting line-up. They are under pressure," Gambhir said.
