Virat Kohli has come back to India to be with his wife Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child. With three Tests still to go in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia, Gautam Gambhir believes that this is a great opportunity for India's stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane.

Rahane has captained India in Tests twice before and has returned positive results both times. Both those Tests (against Afghanistan and Australia) were in India and it will be the first time that Rahane will be leading India away from home.

AUS v IND 2020-21: "India should remember dominating the first 2 days of D/N Test," says Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir told ANI, "In a team sport, one or two players don't matter. If one player is coming back so someone else will get the opportunity and it's a big opportunity for Ajinkya Rahane and I would say that it's not just the Indian team that was bundled out for 36, there are many teams who have been bowled out for low scores but still, there is a lot of cricket to play, three matches are remaining, India can make a comeback."

The former Indian opener also spoke about the changes expected for Team India for the second Test. Gambhir didn't reveal what changes he would like to see for the Boxing Day Test but opined that the team management needs to take decisions keeping the future in mind.

He said, "It's the call of team management but whosoever is given the opportunity it should be given with trust and hope so that it is beneficial in the long term."
