Having taken an overall lead of 62 runs at stumps on Day 2, Team India were expected to dominate the Adelaide Test on the third day but the visitors endured a nightmare with the bat.
India were 9 for 1 at the close of play on Day 2 with Prithvi Shaw being the only dismissed batsman. However, the Australian pace attack changed the course of the game in the first session on Day 3, bowling India out for a paltry 36
Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins were the chief destroyers with the ball. While Hazlewood got rid of Mayank Agarwal (9), Ajinkya Rahane (0), Hanuma Vihari (8), Wriddhiman Saha (4) and Ravichandran Ashwin (0), Cummins removed Cheteshwar Pujara (0), Virat Kohli (4), Jasprit Bumrah (2) after dismissing Shaw overnight.
Cummins was also accounted for Mohammad Shami’s retired hurt as his short delivery resulted in the latter’s injury and the Indian speedster eventually walked off the field.
None of them in the Indian batting line-up managed to touch the double-digit mark as the hosts were set an easy target of 90 in the fourth innings.
Cricket experts were left astonished by the Australian pacer’s dominance while they were also critical of Indian batsmen’s shambolic display.
