Indian captain Virat Kohli was given a huge reprieve by his Australian counterpart Tim Paine in the ongoing first Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide, which is a day-night affair. Kohli had gloved a ball to the keeper, but Paine refused to take a DRS review.
India had lost both openers in Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal quickly, as Cheteshwar Pujara and Kohli tried to rebuild the innings. Nathan Lyon was called upon by Paine to deliver and he almost did what his captain wanted him to do.
On the first ball of the 35th over, Lyon got a ball to turn and bounce and Kohli tried to defend it. But the ball kind of went past his gloves and was collected by Paine down the leg side, and there were appeals from everyone behind the stumps, but Lyon didn’t look sure.

However, with three DRS reviews at your disposal, everyone expected Paine to take one, given that it was Virat Kohli’s wicket on the line, but Paine decided not to review it, despite interest from Matthew Wade, at short leg.
“There is certainly a white mark there, was it there previously, or has that come from rubbing on top of the blade? Matt Wade was interested, the man under the helmet on the off-side was interested.” Adam Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket, as the replays started playing.
The replays showed by the broadcasters Fox Cricket showed that the ball had in fact kissed Kohli's gloves on its way to the keeper. Both hotspot and snicko confirmed that and Paine’s horror runs with DRS calls continued, with this remaining a huge miss.
By the time of writing this article, Kohli had scored his half-century, while he added 68 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara (43), who fell to Lyon.
