Team India lost the ODI series 1-2 and then came back to win the T20I series 2-1 Down Under. The current limited-overs squad selections saw the impact of the recently-concluded IPL 2020 season.
Shreyas Iyer, the skipper of Delhi Capitals, and Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals' top-order batsman had been picked to play their roles similar to what they did in the IPL.
While Iyer was picked for both the white-ball series, Samson played only the three T20Is. The duo batted for a combined total of 8 innings and managed only 119 runs in the limited-overs series against Australia. This performance has disappointed cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra.
Aakash Chopra told Cricbuzz, "Sanju Samson will look behind this series and as will Shreyas Iyer, because at the end of the day, Iyer had been given opportunities – be it ODIs or T20Is. He came into this series with a reputation but he wasn’t able to live up to the expectations. I think he will be very disappointed."
The 43-year-old also took to his YouTube channel to speak about Shreyas Iyer. His focus was mainly on the fact that Iyer got starts but wasted them every time.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel, "He is the captain of the Delhi Capitals and had performed well also earlier but the series was stop-start for him. Also, whenever he got the start, he couldn’t convert it into big innings."
"First, he got out to a bouncer and then when he was playing well, he couldn’t play the long innings. When that happens, the questions will be asked," he added.
