The switch-hit has always been a controversial part of the batsman's game. England's Kevin Pietersen had sparked the controversy with his effective use of the switch hit to counter the bowlers and Australia's Glenn Maxwell has picked the shot well.

The Australian all-rounder was seen playing the extraordinary shot in the ODI series against India. It led to a divide among the experts and fans who raised their opinion about whether it is fair to allow the batsman to change his hands or not.

Former Australian captain called the shot 'illegal' and this has not gone down well with Glenn.

Maxwell responded to Chappell saying, "Like you said, it is within the laws of the game, that has always (been). Batting has evolved in such a way, that it has got better and better over the years, which is why we see these massive scores are getting chased down and the scores are going up."

"And I suppose it is up to the bowlers to try and combat that," he added.

He also spoke about the difficulties faced by the bowlers who need to constantly come up with variations like the knuckleballs.

The 32-year-old said, "I suppose the skills of bowlers have been tested every day with bowlers having to come up with different change-ups, different ways to stop batters."

"We see guys come up with knuckle-balls and wide yorker fields and different tactics. And the tactics of ODI cricket have definitely evolved, so I just see it (switch hit) as a different part of the evolution of the game," he added.
