Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday (November 30) confirmed that the southpaw will miss the last one-day international and the three-match T20I series next month.

After a swashbuckling knock of 83 in the second ODI, Warner fell awkwardly and had to be helped from the field.

The left-hander has been replaced in the T20I squad by D'Arcy Short, but has less than three weeks to prove his fitness for the Test series opener in Adelaide.

CA also said that speedster Pat Cummins would skip the last ODI on Wednesday (December 2) and three T20s in order to stay fresh for the marquee Test series.

"Pat and Davie are critical to our plans for the Test Series," head coach Justin Langer said.

"Davie will work through his injury rehab and in Pat's case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer.

"The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs."

No replacement has been announced for Cummins, with Australia to rely on Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to provide the main seam bowling options.

The battle for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy will kick-start with the pink-ball affair at the Adelaide Oval on December 17. Melbourne will host the second Test from December 26 while the third and fourth Tests will be played in Sydney Cricket Ground (January 7-11) and Brisbane's Gabba (January 15-19), respectively.
