Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is a doubtful starter for the all-important second ODI against India in Sydney on Sunday (November 29) after sustaining an injury during the series opener played on Friday, says a report by cricket.com.au. 

Stoinis was seen in pain after delivering the second ball of his seventh over during India's run-chase and left the field immediately with the team physio.

Glenn Maxwell completed the over for the 31-year-old who had up until then bowled a miserly spell of 0/25 in helping Australia defend their massive score of 374/6. 

The reported mentioned, Stoinis suffered a "left side pain" and will have scans to determine the extent of the injury and his participation in the penultimate fixture of the three-match series. 

Steve Smith, whose outstanding ton helped the Aussies dominate the visitors in the first ODI, said the team management is hoping for Stoinis' quick recovery. 

"I don’t know how Stoinis is. I haven’t seen him but fingers crossed he’s OK. But if he’s not then someone has to come in, and someone who’s a bowler so perhaps Cameron (Green)," Smith was quoted as saying in the report. 

Stoinis' injury could open the doors for uncapped Cameron Green or give Moises Henriques his comeback. 

Speaking of Green, the Western Australia all-rounder, who is now part of Australia's squads across formats, Smith said he is impressed by what he has seen of the youngster in the nets. 

"He’s obviously started the Shield season really well, and he’s a bright talent. I faced him for a couple of balls this afternoon in the nets before the game, it was the first time I’ve seen him bowl and he bowls a heavy ball," Smith said.

"So he looks an impressive talent and if he gets an opportunity, hopefully, he can take it with both hands."
