AUS v IND 2020-21: CA remains committed to host day-night Test in Adelaide despite surge in COVID-19 cases

The board wants to act fast in tackling with a sudden wave of Coronavirus in Adelaide.

Fresh COVID-19 cases has seen other states lock borders with South Australia | GettyIn wake of a sudden COVID-19 outbreak in South Australia, Cricket Australia (CA) is bracing for a mass relocation of players and support staff into New South Wales (NSW) as part of efforts to save the start of the international summer against India.

The states of Western Australia, Queensland and Tasmania closed their borders with South Australia on Monday (November 16) in order to avoid the spread of the virus.

For CA, the unexpected spike in South Australia has meant more headache in trying to salvage the lucrative India series.

The board on Tuesday clarified that it remains committed to hosting the day-night Test between India and Australia in Adelaide despite a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in South Australia. "CA continues to monitor the situation in South Australia but remains committed to hosting the first Vodafone Test against India at the Adelaide Oval," CA said in an official statement.

The board has also got down to finding a way where it can shift Australia's white-ball, Test match and 'A' teams squads into Sydney.

ESPNcricinfo reported, "the likelihood of a spontaneous airlift is a reminder of a febrile environment that has taxed sporting administrators, players and coaches."

"Our bio-security and operational teams are closely monitoring the situation and working to put in place the necessary plans to ensure players, coaches and staff are available for upcoming fixtures," said CA in a statement.

As per Australian media reports, CA continues to assess the fast-evolving situation within the country.

"CA has always maintained that it would need to be agile as border conditions change and we thank the players, coaches and staff involved for their flexibility and all parties for their support," the board said.

"We will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves and look forward to hosting a safe and successful summer across all formats."

As fresh Coronavirus positive cases in Adelaide were brought to light by the media, the news forced Australian players, including Test skipper Tim Paine, to self-isolate. CA, however, remains committed to hosting the first Test at the iconic Adelaide Oval from December 17.

In closing their borders with South Australia, other states have also imposed a 14-day hotel quarantine on all visitors arriving from Adelaide post Monday afternoon.
