Despite the fresh Coronavirus outbreak in Adelaide, Cricket Australia (CA) has said that the first Test against India will go ahead as scheduled.

The battle for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy will kick-start with the pink-ball affair at the Adelaide Oval on December 17.

A cluster of COVID-19 cases in Adelaide forced Australian players, including skipper Tim Paine, into self-isolation on Monday (November 16).

Other states like Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory also sealed their borders with South Australia and impose a 14-day hotel quarantine on all visitors from Adelaide.

“There is ongoing monitoring but that’s the end of the story,” a CA spokeswoman was quoted as saying by ‘Sydney Morning Herald’ on the Adelaide Test.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Adelaide had moved up from four on Sunday to 17 on Monday.4

The development might put the Australian summer of cricket in jeopardy but CA insisted there is no reason to think next month’s Test series opener against India at the Adelaide Oval is in doubt.

The newspaper said CA is keeping an eye on the impact of the outbreak and its officials were in contact with key decision-makers.

Tasmanian health authorities have returnees from South Australia since November 9 to quarantine.

This meant that Paine, Matthew Wade and their team-mates in the Tasmania squad, which recently played the opening round of Sheffield Shield matches in South Australia, had to go into isolation.

“… Tasmanian Tigers Sheffield Shield squad are self-isolating as we wait for further advice from Public Health,” a Cricket Tasmania spokesman said.

“Players and staff have COVID-19 swab tests scheduled for later today.”

Meanwhile, Team India have reached Australia and serving a 14-day quarantine in Sydney since Thursday (November 12).

They will complete the isolation a day before the ODI series which begins on November 27 at the SCG.
