Mumbai batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been again and again hurt with the overlooking by Indian selectors despite being prolific in the domestic circuit and Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 30-year-old was yet again overlooked for India selection for the upcoming Australia tour despite being consistent scorer for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2020 – this move didn’t go down well with many questioning his snub and calling for his inclusion for the tour for at least the T20Is.
The right-hander has been crucial in MI’s success in the ongoing IPL 13 so far by hammering 461 runs in 15 matches at an average of 41. He has been one of the most consistent performers in the last few seasons of IPL, scoring 512 and 424 runs in 2018 and 2019, and that’s the main reason cricket fraternity and fans were not pleased with his overlooking, believing the in-form batsman deserves a chance.
Well now, former India cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has joined the bandwagon of cricket fraternity fans saying Suryakumar should have named in India’s limited-overs squad for the Australia tour later this month.
In a YouTube video, Chopra said that the voice comes repeatedly from the heart that Surya should have been on the Australian tour while saying Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant should be in the list of prospective wicketkeeper-batsmen for the Indian team.
Chopra said, “The voice comes repeatedly from the heart that Suryakumar Yadav should have been on the Australia tour. Ishan Kishan’s name should also be there along with Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant in the list of prospective wicketkeeper-batsmen for the Indian team.”
He also praised Hardik Pandya for his blazing innings that pushed MI to 200 while batting first against Delhi Capitals and the commentator said: “Ravichandran Ashwin was trying to get the Delhi Capitals back in the game but they were not able to take advantage of that. First Suryakumar Yadav, then Ishan Kishan and finally Hardik Pandya blasted them.”
Chopra signed off by saying, “The Delhi Capitals won the toss and after that, they did not win anything. That’s the only thing they won on the night. They have played the Mumbai Indians thrice and have lost by 9 wickets, 5 wickets, and then 50-60 runs. What are they doing?”
