Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended the wait of its loyal fanbase for a trophy after the Women's team defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 8 wickets in the WPL 2024 final to clinch the title.

DC won the toss and elected to bat first in Delhi, and were off to a great start of 64/0 in 7 overs courtesy Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, before Sophie Molineux's three-wicket over left them rattled.

Shreyanka Patil (4/12), Sophie Molineux (3/20), and Asha Sobhana (2/14) spun a web around DC as the hosts lost 10 wickets for just 49 runs to be bowled out for 113 in 18.3 overs.

RCB went about the small target very calmly as Smriti Mandhana (31), Sophie Devine (32), Ellyse Perry (35*) and Richa Ghosh (17*) ensured there were no hiccups in the chase as the side completed an 8-wicket win with three balls left.

While the RCB Men's team is yet to win the IPL title after 16 attempts, the Women's team tasted glory at just their second attempt in WPL. They were rightly hailed by not just the cricketing fraternity, but also members of the Men's team who are gearing up for the IPL 2024 edition starting from March 22.
