After doing well in white-ball cricket for the last couple of seasons, India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan finally made his Test debut against the West Indies in Dominica earlier this month.

On debut, the southpaw scored 1 not out off 20 balls in India’s only innings and he impressed everyone with his keeping against the likes of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja when the ball was turning and bouncing.

In the ongoing second Test at Queen’s Park Oval, Kishan got out after scoring 25 in India’s first innings and former India pacer Zaheer Khan feels that the left-hander would be disappointed because he missed out on an opportunity to play a good knock against the West Indies.

“He started the knock well. So he will be extremely disappointed because once you have played 30-40 deliveries and scored 25 runs, you have gotten your eye in. In Test matches, it is said that it is not a problem if you get out at the start,” Zaheer said while speaking to JioCinema.

He also opined that the effects of T20 and white-ball cricket were seen in the dismissal of Kishan, who got out by edging a Jason Holder delivery straight into the safe hands of West Indies wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva after being dropped by Kirk McKenzie at midwicket on the previous delivery.

“However, if you get out like this, especially the shot he played, the T20 or white-ball effect was seen in that, so he will be disappointed with that because he had an excellent opportunity to play a good knock today,” Khan added.

Zaheer Khan also commented on R Ashwin’s half-century on Day 2, saying that the latter played a very good knock and helped India breach the barrier of 400 runs. Ashwin scored 56 runs off 78 balls with eight boundaries.

“It was an extremely good knock because the more runs you can add at such a stage, the better it is. When the team's score goes past 400, it becomes easier for you. Ashwin played a very good innings. He knew he won't get that much support from the other end. So he was trying harder as he knew that the quicker he scores, it would be that better,” Zaheer stated.
