WI v IND 2023: WATCH – Ashwin cleans up Tagenarine Chanderpaul with a ripper; becomes 1st Indian to dismiss father and son in Tests

On his Test debut in 2011, Ashwin had dismissed Tagenarine’s father Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Wednesday (July 12) added a unique feather to his cap as he became the first Indian and only the fifth bowler in world cricket to dismiss both the father and son in Test matches.

Ashwin achieved this feat by dismissing Tagenarine Chanderpaul during the opening day of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica.

On his Test debut way back in November 2011, Ashwin had dismissed Tagenarine’s father Shivnarine Chanderpaul in the second innings by trapping him in front of the wicket.

In Dominica, the ace off-spinner put on a show with the ball as he claimed a five-wicket haul (5-60) to help India bundle out the hosts for a paltry 150 in 64.3 overs. He cleaned up Tagenarine with a peach of a delivery.

Interestingly, the Chanderpauls feature three times in this unique list. Before Ashwin, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and South African spinner Simon Harmer had dismissed the father-son duo.

The other two bowlers to achieve the feat are England legend Ian Botham and former Pakistan quick Wasim Akram. Their feat was also eerily similar as they dismissed the New Zealand father-son duo of Lance and Chris Cairns.
