Venkatesh Prasad feels Shreyas Iyer is more suited to ODI cricket.
Shreyas Iyer yet again failed to convert his form in ODI cricket to T20Is, as he was dismissed for a duck in the opening match of the five-match T20I series against the West Indies on Friday (July 29) to come under the radar of fans and the cricket fraternity.
Iyer batted at No. 3 for India in the ODIs in the absence of Virat Kohli, and did a brilliant job with the bat in the recently concluded ODI series in the Caribbean, but when it comes to T20I cricket, things remain the same for the right-hander.
Well, Iyer got the opportunity to bat at No. 3 in the first T20I as well, but failed to live up to the expectations and was dismissed for a four-ball duck, leaving former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad to question his selection in India’s playing XI in the shorter format of the game.
He wasn’t impressed with India’s selection for the first T20I and said that ignoring Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, and Ishan Kishan for Iyer was a bizarre call on Friday.
Venkatesh Prasad wrote on Twitter, “Some of the selection calls keeping the upcoming World T20 in mind are worth pondering. Shreyas Iyer in T20 cricket when you have Sanju, Hooda and Ishan in the team is bizarre. With Virat, Rohit and Rahul definite starters, need to work on getting right balance.”
Well, the former Indian pacer’s remarks didn’t go down well with a fan, and he responded by saying that Iyer has performed well in the past and is just unlucky these days, only to get another shot from Prasad.
Prasad responded to the fan by saying, “He is good in 50 over cricket. In T20 cricket, there are better players as of now who can get going from the word go. Iyer will have to work hard on his skills for T20.”
