Shubman Gill amassed 205 runs in three ODIs against the West Indies.
Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh and Sunriers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Abhishek Sharma heaped praise on Shubman Gill for winning the Player of the Series award in the ODIs against the West Indies.
The ODI series between West Indies and India saw young Gill getting an opportunity in the white-ball format. The Punjab batter didn’t need a second invitation to stake his claim as he was the main architect behind his side’s 3-0 win.
Opening the batting, Gill provided his team with a solid start in all three games. He started the series with a brisk half-century as he scored 64 runs in the first game and then followed it with a classy 43 in the second match.
The right-hander took his batting to the next level in the third game, playing a high-class knock of 98*.

After missing out on his hundred in the first two games, Gill looked all set for his maiden international ton in the third ODI but the fortunes didn’t favour him as rain interrupted the match. He was on 98* when rain stopped play and ended the Indian innings.
Gill ended the series as the leading run-scorer with 205 runs to his name at an average of 102.50, including two half-centuries. He was also awarded Player of the Series and was applauded by many for his heroics.
Gill’s mentor Yuvraj and his friend Abhishek congratulated him for winning his first Player of the Series award. The former Indian cricketer posted a video on his Twitter account, in which he and the young all-rounder can be seen working out in the gym and praising Gill.
Abhishek Sharma was quoted as saying: “I am really happy paaji. Had spoken to him a day before the match. He had said it would be great if he could get to score his first ODI century. He also added that all the practice sessions paid off well. A hearty congrats to him for winning the Man of the Series award. Many more to come.”
Whereas Yuvraj captioned the video: “Congrats @ShubmanGill on your first man of the series award. Here are some kind words on your performance from your good friend Sir @IamAbhiSharma4.”

Gill with his solid performance in the ODI series against West Indies might have made his case strong for the regular place in the Indian ODI side. He’s likely to travel to Zimbabwe for the upcoming series.
