WI v IND 2022: “Would like to see Arshdeep replace someone”, Parthiv bats for left-arm pacer's selection in 3rd ODI

Parthiv argued that teams have a slight benefit with a left-arm pace option.

Former India opener Parthiv Patel has said that he would like to see left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh in the third ODI against West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad on Wednesday (July 27).

Since his T20I debut against England in the series opener, Arshdeep hasn't played for India and was benched for the first two ODIs against West Indies.

Patel has stated that he wants to see Arshdeep bowling 10 overs in the heat. He added that having a left-arm seamer gives the team a slight edge.

"I would like to see Arshdeep replace someone in the bowling attack, maybe Thakur or Siraj. I want to see how Arshdeep copes with bowling 10 overs in the heat. We have all seen what he can do in T20 cricket. Having a left-handed bowler gives you a slight advantage." he told Cricbuzz.

The former wicketkeeper batter continued by saying that Indian batters should build on their recent strong starts by converting them to big scores, similar to what West Indies opener Shai Hope (115 off 135 balls) did in the second ODI on Sunday (July 24).

After being reduced to 205/5 in the second ODI, the tourists were able to cross the finish line with only  2 balls remaining largely thanks to Akshar Patel's (64* off 35 balls) heroics with the bat in the slog overs.

Deepak Hooda almost bowling his entire quota of 10 overs was Patel's biggest takeaway from the game, though.

"Biggest takeaway of the game was Hooda bowling those nine overs. He is giving India a lot of options being capable of playing at any position as an all-round option," he added.

By winning the first two games of the three-match series, Team India have already clinched the ODI series. A five-match T20I series will be played after the third ODI.
