Virat Kohli recently missed the first ODI against England due to a groin injury.
The ODI squad was named a few days ago and will be captained by Shikhar Dhawan as the majority of first-choice players who played in England were rested.
However, after much wait, the Indian squad for the West Indies T20I series was revealed and everyone was surprised to see the names of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Umran Malik missing.
More focus was on Virat Kohli’s absence in the Indian squad given that he has missed and has been rested for quite some matches since the start of the year. He gave the ODI series in South Africa a miss and was not part of Sri Lanka and South Africa T20I series at home as well.
One of the biggest gripes with the BCCI was lack of communication which was evident as it was not clarified by them whether Kohli had been rested or just not picked for the series due to injury or some other reason.
The right-handed batter has been struggling with his form for the past 2-3 years and in the past 18 months, things have gotten worst in 2022, Kohli’s bat has stopped churning out half-centuries as well, which were common beforehand.

It was expected that he would take the opportunity to play in West Indies to get back his form with the T20 World Cup coming up. But with his name missing from the squad, he will have only the Asia Cup and the home Australia series to find some form with the bat in time for the ICC event.
Obviously, the Twitterverse reacted in various ways after his name was missing in the West Indies T20I series.
Here are some of the reactions:
