Rohit Sharma led MI to both IPL and Champions League titles in 2013.
Famous for being forgetful, Rohit Sharma related a funny story about how, after winning the toss, he couldn't remember what he had to choose. Rohit told a story about his time as the Mumbai Indians' (MI) captain during the 2013 Champions League.
Rohit Sharma disclosed in an interview with Harbhajan on the YouTube series "Who is the Boss" that MI's brain tank had decided at the squad meeting to bowl if they won the toss. However, he chose to bat first after winning the toss.
The team's mentor at the time, Anil Kumble, was a little miffed by Rohit's choice and questioned him about it during the toss. According to Rohit, he chose to bat first since the pitch appeared to be in good condition.
Rohit was ultimately proven right as the Mumbai Indians went on to eventually clinch victory.
“This is an incident from the 2013 Champions League. We won the toss. We had decided to field first, but I won the toss and batted first. Anil bhai asked ‘What did you do, Rohit? ‘ I told him, ‘Anil bhai, I thought the pitch was goo,d so I thought of batting first, but I had forgotten and said it wrong at the toss. We won the match," Rohit recounted during Harbhajan Singh’s YouTube show.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the only team to win both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Champions League T20 in the same year, which the Mumbai Indians (MI) accomplished in 2013.
In his maiden season as captain, Rohit Sharma, who succeeded Ricky Ponting as MI's captain in the middle of the season, guided the side to their first IPL championship. In the all-Indian Champions League final that took place in Delhi later that year, MI defeated the Rajasthan Royals.
