Ashwin is quite active on social media following his retirement from international cricket.
Ravichandran Ashwin on Saturday (March 8) took a social media user to task after the individual quoted the former India spinner as making some big revelations on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s careers following the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.
Rumours are rife that this might be the final ICC tournament for Rohit and Kohli, considering that they have retired from T20Is and the next ODI World Cup is scheduled in 2027, by which time they will be 40 and 39 years old, respectively.
The World Test Championship (WTC) final will also take place in 2027 but featuring in that would depend on qualification.
“????Ravi Ashwin said – As far as I know, Rohit is targeting 2027 odi wc while you may see Virat Kohli hanging up his boots soon because he wants to spend more time with his young family that is what Virat discussed to me few months back," the user wrote on X.
To which, Ashwin replied, “Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script, but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?"
Both Rohit and Kohli announced retirement from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup triumph last year. Many believe they can follow a similar path post the Champions Trophy, irrespective of the outcome in the final.
India are due to face New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (March 9).
Kohli has been in fine touch throughout the showpiece tournament, registering scores of 22, 100* 11 and 84. On the other hand, Rohit has failed to play a big knock as he returned with scores of 41, 20, 15 and 28 in the four innings so far.
